Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 10/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Pattern
A weak low pressure trough will persist over eastern Victoria this week. A high
pressure ridge south of Victoria will weaken on Wednesday as the northern tip of
a cold front moves across Bass Strait. A high pressure system will then develop
southwest of Victoria on Thursday before moving to the east of Tasmania on
Friday.

Tuesday:   Fine apart from isolated thundery showers in the far east in the
afternoon and evening. Areas of smoke haze in the east. A mild to warm and
mostly sunny day with light to moderate southeasterly winds and fresh afternoon
coastal seabreezes.
Fire Danger: High to very high in the north, moderate to high in the south.
UV Index: 13 [extreme] decreasing 8 [very high] under cloud
Wednesday: Fine apart from early fogs in the south and isolated late
thunderstorms in the east. Very warm to hot before a milder change on the coast.
Thursday:  Fine apart from local morning drizzle in the south and isolated
thunderstorms in the east. Mild to warm.
Friday:    Fine apart from early fogs in the south and isolated thunderstorms in
the east. Warm to hot.
Forecast for Melbourne
Tuesday
Fine. A mostly sunny afternoon with southeast wind freshening on the seabreeze.

Wednesday
Fine. Mainly sunny. Light to moderate northerly wind ahead of a late cool
southwest change.    Min 15    Max 33

Early drizzle then fine.                    Min 15    Max 23

Warm to hot ahead of a cool change with showers.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Tuesday:   South to southeasterly winds of around 10 knots, freshening to 15 to
20 knots in the afternoon and evening with seabreezes.  Waves of half a metre
rising to one metre. 
Wednesday: Variable winds to 10 knots tending north to northwesterly at 10 to 15
knots in the morning.  A southwest to southerly change at 15 to 20 knots in the
afternoon. Waves rising to 1 metre during the afternoon.
Thursday:  Southerly winds of 10 to 15 knots. Afternoon and evening seabreezes
to 20 knots.
Friday:    Variable winds to 10 knots. Afternoon and evening seabreezes to 20
knots.
