Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Dec 9/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil STATE FORECAST for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday Showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the south-east corner and eastern interior this afternoon but contracted to just the southeast on Thursday. Showers and thunderstorm are expected to develop over western and far southern Queensland during Thursday afternoon. Generally fine elsewhere with only isolated showers about the northeast tropical coasts. Light to moderate SE to NE over eastern and tropical Queensland tending more N to NW over the remainder of the state. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Tasman Sea will continue to move slowly eastwards and will be replaced by a new high later in the week. A weak trough over Southeast Queensland will retreat southwards on Friday though in doing so showers will persist over the south-east coast. The next upper trough will move into central and south-eastern Australia on Friday. Cloud with rain and storms generated by this system will move across the west and south-west during Friday. Some moderate to heavy falls of rain will occur with system. A front will accompany the upper trough and move into the west of the state on Friday and off the southern coast overnight Saturday. Winds along the far southern coast will become strong during Friday afternoon and Saturday til the front moves through overnight Saturday and Sunday morning. The cloud and rain band will clear the southern coast during Sunday. Dry SW to SE winds will spread across southern and central areas of the state in the wake of this front. Over the far north of the state showers and storms will continue and slip southwards across the west of the state on Thursday as next upstream system comes into play.
