Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 8/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Friday 12 December 2008.
Warning Summary at issue time

telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A low pressure trough will form over South Australia tonight and pass over
Victoria tomorrow to reach the Tasman sea on Wednesday. A high pressure ridge
will develop over Bass Strait on Wednesday with an associated high moving south
of Tasmania on Thursday. A low pressure system will develop at the head of the
Bight Thursday and deepen as it moves southeast to be near western Bass Strait
by Friday night.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine with light winds and coastal sea breezes easing.
Forecast for Tuesday
Patchy rain extending from the west. Isolated thunderstorms developing in the
northwest. Generally warm with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds tending
southerly.
Maximum Fire Danger: High to very high.
Forecast for Wednesday
Patchy rain clearing from the east. Isolated showers on and south of the ranges
gradually clearing eastwards. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible over
the eastern ranges. Mild to warm with light to moderate southerly winds.
Forecast for Thursday
Patchy rain developing in the northwest during the morning, increasing and
extending to northern and western districts later. Fine elsewhere. Mild to warm
with moderate to locally fresh easterly winds.
Forecast for Friday
Rain extending to all areas during the day, easing to isolated showers and
clearing the northwest by evening. Generally mild with fresh to locally strong
east to northeast winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Tuesday.
