Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 10/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Lower Dawson and Fitzroy, Burnett, Warrego, Paroo and the Alice and Barcoo Rivers. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and most of the interior. Some areas of rain mainly over the eastern districts. Fine over the far southwest. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high near New Zealand will move SE and will be replaced by a new high in the Tasman Sea late on Thursday. The upper trough now over the state will also move eastwards and will move out of the state on Wednesday. So the band of rain and storms over most of the tropics and the east will clear on Wednesday. However, in its wake a few showers and storms will persist over most of the tropics and the SE inland. As the next high pushes into the Tasman Sea the surface trough over New South Wales will move northwards. This will trigger some showers and storms about southern border areas from Thursday onwards. The high will build the ridge along most of the east coast during Thursday and Friday and consequently the showers and storms over the tropics will contract into northern and western areas. Conditions over most of the west of the state will remain quite humid and will gradually become hotter during the week as winds turn more northerly. The sultry conditions will continue over the northern tropics. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
