Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 9/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings for the Lower Dawson, Fitzroy, Burnett and Warrego Rivers. STATE FORECAST for Monday Fine in the far southwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and most of the interior, with some areas of rain as well. A few showers about the south coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A high will persist in the New Zealand area for most of the week, maintaining a moist easterly flow into most of Queensland. The atmosphere will remain humid and unstable over the northern tropics for the next few days, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in most parts. A broad upper trough over western Queensland will begin to weaken and move east on Tuesday. This should cause a slow eastward contraction of the weather in central and southern Queensland and the heavy rain should be finished. Also on Tuesday a low will develop off the New South Wales coast. On Wednesday the upper trough will weaken further over eastern Queensland, with only isolated showers or thunderstorms likely there, and fine weather in western districts. By Thursday most of the southern half of the state should be fine, however a surface trough near the western and southern borders may trigger a few thunderstorms in those areas. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
