North American Potato Harvest Drops
WASHINGTON - Nov 26/08 - SNS -- Potato production in Canada and the United States is down 8% from last year at an estimated 478 million cwt (100 pound units), according to a joint report from the USDA and Statistics Canada.
The U.S. fall potato production is estimated at 373 million cwt, 8% lower than 2007. Canada's potato growers harvested 104 million cwt, down 5% from 2007.
