Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 25/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

FLOOD WATCH FOR EAST GIPPSLAND CATCHMENTS (CANN AND GENOA).
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Wilsons
Promontory.
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Lakes Entrance and 60nm east
of Gabo Island.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system well south of the Bight extends a ridge over Tasmania.
The high will pass to the south of Victoria today and become established in the
Tasman sea. A broad low pressure trough over South Australia is moving steadily
eastwards and will reach western Victoria later today. The trough will continue
a slow eastward progression across the State on Thursday and Friday before
moving across to the Tasman Sea on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers in the west spreading throughout during the afternoon and
tending more widespread about the northeast ranges. Local afternoon
thunderstorms developing. Mild to warm and mostly cloudy with mainly moderate
northeast winds, becoming more variable in the west.
Maximum Fire Danger: Very high in the northwest.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon. Mild to warm.
Light to moderate northeasterly wind tending southwesterly in the west.
Forecast for Friday
Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the east. Isolated showers over
remaining southern districts.
Mild.
Forecast for Saturday
Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the east clearing by the afternoon.
Scattered showers in southern and mountain areas becoming more isolated by
evening. A generally mild day with moderate to fresh southwest winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.
