Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 6/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings for the Lower Dawson River and tributaries, and the upper Burnett River. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Friday and Saturday Fine in the far southwest corner. A few showers and thunderstorms over the most of the tropics with generally light winds. A few showers about the southern coast and adjacent inland, and rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern interior. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A high pressure system is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea until early next week, maintaining a moist easterly airflow into Queensland. This will bring a few showers to the central and south coast and adjacent inland. An area of converging winds is likely to produce widespread heavier showers and some thunderstorms about the central coast today, slowly shifting north during the weekend. The upper low which caused the recent flood rain about the Capricorn Coast has moved inland and weakened. However an upper trough is developing over southwest Queensland which is likely to produce some lighter rain and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern interior during the weekend. This upper trough is expected to move east and weaken on Monday with the rain gradually contracting east across the Darling Downs and breaking up. An area of fine weather over the far southwest corner of the state will spread further east on Monday behind the weakening upper trough. Humid and unstable conditions will persist over the tropics for the next few days with scattered to isolated shower and thunderstorms activity. Daytime temperatures will remain well below average under areas of heavy cloud cover and near average in other areas. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
