Ukraine Exports Total 1 MMT in JanuaryKIEV - Feb 6/03 - APK -- According to preliminary estimations of APK-Inform analysts, grains exports from Ukraine in January must have constituted some 1 million metric tons (MT). Although being less than the 1.67 million MT shipped in December, this figure should be viewed as not bad for a holiday month, especially given that since January there have been started import restriction to EU countries, where Ukraine used to ship considerable amounts of its grain. This explains considerable cut in exports of wheat in January, compared to December -- around 500,000 MT from more than 1 million MT. EU has introduced a quota for imports of low and medium quality wheat with a 12 euro per MT duty within the quota. Nevertheless, sales of Ukrainian grain to EU have not ceased. According to our information, shipments of both milling and feed wheat have been continued to Spain and Italy. These countries also have bought Ukrainian rye. Totally over the seven month of the 2002-03 season (since July through January) Ukraine exported around 9.3 million MT of grain, including 6.1 million MT of wheat.
