Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 6/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
A flood warning is current for the Lower Dawson River and tributaries.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday
Rain areas through east central parts gradually easing. Some further heavy falls
close to the coast overnight. Cloudy with a little rain over the southern
interior. A few showers or thunderstorms most other parts. Moderate southeast to
northeast winds, fresh at times over the central and south coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
A high pressure system is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea during the
weekend and into early next week and thus maintain a moist onshore flow into the
state. The upper low is expected to gradually weaken allowing the heavy rains
over the east central parts to ease however lighter rain areas should continue
over central and southern parts today. Elsewhere over the state a few showers
and thunderstorms are expected over the next few days in the moist unstable
environment over the state. Another upper trough reforms over the west of the
state on the weekend and some rain areas are possible to the east of this system
over the weekend. Daytime temperatures will remain well below average under the
heavy cloud cover and near average other areas.
