Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 5/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil warnings. STATE FORECAST for Thursday Widespread rain areas spreading across much of the southern half of the state. Some moderate to heavy falls, mostly near the Capricorn and adjacent areas. A few showers or thunderstorms most other parts. Fresh east to northeast winds along the central and south coasts. Light to moderate winds otherwise. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A low, Ex- tropical cyclone Beni, will weaken today as it moves west across the eastern highlands. The Tasman Sea high is expected to move eastwards and weaken a little but a ridge will be maintained onto the south Queensland coast bringing moist onshore winds and a few showers for a couple of days yet. The upper low will move west then slip south later in the week. Widespread rain areas will follow the low across the central and southern interior but gradually decrease. Some moderate to locally heavy falls are possible, most likely in eastern parts. Some showers and/or thunderstorms are expected over most other parts of the state for the rest of the week. On the weekend, unsettled conditions will continue over most of the state with some showers whilst thunderstorms are likely over northern and inland parts.
