MELBOURNE - Oct 17/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary:
Nil. Refer to Warnings at www.bom.gov.au for the latest information.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge across New

the state and weaken as the high moves towards New Zealand and a low
pressure approaches from the west. During Monday the trough will move
through the west and southeast of the state and then it is expected
to weaken over the northeast on Tuesday. Due to dryness of airmasses
showers and thunderstorms are expected only over the eastern parts of
the state as the trough moves through.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine apart from the chance of afternoon thunderstorms on the western
slopes of southern ranges. Northwest to northeast winds, fresh at
times near the coast in the afternoon.
Fire danger: Very High in the Riverina and Lower Western.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated afternoon/evening showers or thunderstorms in the southeast.
Mostly fine elsewhere. Northwest to northeast winds ahead of a cool
southerly change in the west and southeast.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers in the east tending scattered with isolated
afternoon thunderstorms on the central and north coasts and ranges.
Northwest to northeast winds in the far northeast, southwest to
southeast elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers and afternoon thunderstorms on the northern half of
the coast and ranges, isolated showers on the remainder of the coast
and ranges. Fine elsewhere. Southerly winds.
