Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 3/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A strong wind warning is current for Victorian coastal waters east of Lakes
Entrance.
Weather Pattern
A low pressure trough over South Australia will move eastwards, reaching
Victoria during Wednesday then stalling over eastern parts of the state during
Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A high pressure system will develop south of the
Bight on Friday and persist there on Saturday.
Victoria
Tuesday:   Fine. Areas of smoke persisting, particularly in the east. A warm to
hot and sunny day inland with chiefly moderate northeast to northerly wind,
however conditions tempered about the coast by seabreezes.
Fire Danger: Generally high to very high.
UV Index: 11 [extreme]
Wednesday: Mainly fine, although isolated showers and thunderstorms developing
from the west. Warm to hot ahead of a cool change in the south.
Thursday:  Mainly fine. Isolated morning coastal drizzle. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms possible, mainly in the east. Warm to hot in the north. Milder
near the coast.
Friday:    Mainly fine. Isolated morning coastal drizzle. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms possible, mainly in the east. Warm to hot in the north. Milder in
the south. 
Forecast for Melbourne
Tuesday
Dry with smoke haze persisting. A mainly sunny day with chiefly moderate
northeast to northerly wind and afternoon seabreezes.

Northerly wind freshening ahead of a cooler southerly change in the afternoon.
Thunderstorms possible near the change.    Min 19    Max 33

Becoming fine.                              Min 18    Max 27

Early drizzle then fine.                    Min 14    Max 24
Trend for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Mainly fine. Mild to warm.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Tuesday:   Northeast to northerly winds at 10 to 15 knots, reaching 20 knots at
times before seabreezes of 10 to 15 knots develop in the afternoon and evening.
Waves to one metre.
Wednesday: Northerly wind strengthening to 20 to 25 knots in the morning ahead
of a late southerly change of 15 to 20 knots. Waves of 1 to 2 metres.
Thursday:  South to southeasterly wind of 15 knots freshening to about 20 knots
during the afternoon.
Friday:    South to southeasterly wind of 10 to 20 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Dry. Smoke haze.
