Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Oct 13/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Lockhart River and Cairns. STATE FORECAST for Monday night and Tuesday Isolated showers in eastern districts, becoming scattered about the tropical coast with some moderate falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms near a surface trough, which extends through western Queensland from the Gulf Country to the Channel Country. This trough and thunderstorms expected to move eastwards into Maranoa, Warrego and SW Darling Downs on Tuesday. Generally moderate SE to NE winds tending fresh SE about the Northern Tropical Coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK On Wednesday the surface trough, currently in the Channel Country will move through the Central West to the Darling Downs districts and continue to produce isolated showers and thunderstorms to its east. A strong SE wind change will move up the south coast from New South Wales during the day with isolated showers and thunderstorms ahead of the change and some showers to follow. Onshore flow will persist in eastern districts, producing some showers. On Thursday, the coastal change will push northwards along the Wide Bay to Capricornia coasts bringing some showers and afternoon storms to coastal areas. Instability will persist over the southeast and extend into central Queensland resulting in some further showers and isolated afternoon thunderstorms. Isolated showers will become confined to the east tropical coasts. For Friday, the coastal change will wash out in what will be a developing ridge over eastern. A new high pressure system will move across eastern NSW. Shower activity in Queensland will be mostly confined to eastern coastal districts in a cooler SE airstream.
