Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 3/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind and gale warning is current for coastal waters between Bowen and Coolangatta. A severe weather warning has been issued for coastal and island communities between Mackay and the Town of 1770. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday Rain areas with some moderate to heavy falls about the coast and ranges south of Mackay and gradually spreading across the adjacent inland during the day. A few showers and thunderstorms over much of the remainder of the state except the south-west where fine. Strong to gale force SE winds along the coast south of Mackay. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The Coral Sea low, ex TC Beni, will move across the central Queensland coast near Mackay overnight Tuesday while the Tasman Sea high will continue to move eastwards and weaken a little. Initially, gale force winds will occur about the southern central coast and the Capricornia coast but these will weaken during Wednesday as the low moves further inland. The low in conjunction with an upper low over the central inland will produce further rain about the coast and ranges and this rain will move inland into the southern inland on Thursday before breaking to showers and storms during Friday. Further moderate to heavy falls will occur about the coast and ranges south of about Rockhampton and develop over the southern Highlands area on Wednesday. The upper low will weaken and slip southwards from late Thursday onwards and consequently the rain will break to showers on Friday over the inland. Over most of the tropics conditions will continue sultry well into the latter part of the week with isolated showers and storms in various parts. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
