U.S. Egg Output Drops 1 Percent
WASHINGTON - Sep 22/08 - SNS -- U.S, according to today's USDA update on the sector.
egg quantityed to 7.55 billion within August 2008, down 1% from last year.
Production included 6.45 billion table eggs, and 1.10 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.04 billion were broiler-type and 65 million were egg-type.
The total number of layers during August 2008 averaged 335 million, down 2% from last year.
August egg production per 100 layers was 2,252 eggs, up 1% from August 2007. All layers in the U.S. on September 1, 2008 totalled 335 million, down 2% from last year.
