Solid Decline in Yellow Pea ValuesVANCOUVER - Sep 5/08 - SNS -- International yellow pea markets posted solid declines during the past week, while green peas held steady against a relatively tight world supply situation. Canadian markets bore the brunt of the decrease, while those in the United States continue to be supported by USDA PL-480 food aid tender activity. During the week, the USDA paid an average U.S. $28.87 per 100 pounds (cwt) for 9,820 metric tons (MT) of split yellow peas; and tendered to buy 10,860 MT of yellow split; 1,050 MT of whole yellow; 250 MT of green split; and 5,430 MT of whole green peas for shipment from origin between October 16 to November 6. This lifts actual and prospective whole and split yellow pea purchases to 26,320 MT so far in 2008-09 and green peas to 9,680 MT, compared to 16,280 and 8,980 MT respectively during the first two months of the previous marketing year.
