Third Smaller Ginger HarvestWASHINGTON - Aug 12/08 - SNS -- Hawaii ginger root production for the 2007-08 season is estimated at 1.80 million pounds, down 36% from the previous season, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates Harvested area, at 60 acres, is down 25% from 2007. The average yield is 30,000 pounds per harvested acre, down 14% from the previous season. Below-normal rainfall and disease problems contributed to the decrease in yield.
