USDA Buoys New Crop ChickpeasVANCOUVER - Jul 25/08 - SNS -- New crop chickpea markets in the United States were given a helping hand by the USDA during the past week. On its latest regularly scheduled PL-480 food aid tender, the USDA requested offers of 3,500 metric tons (MT) of chickpeas for shipment from origin during September. This is seen as a positive demand development by processors in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and California, as it will help clear out lower quality product just as the season gets underway and provide excellent opening season delivery opportunities for growers.
