Argentine Harvest Nearly CompleteVANCOUVER - Jul 25/08 - SNS -- Argentina's exportable surplus of dry edible beans is unlikely to exceed 251,700 metric tons (MT) of all classes of beans from this year's crop, according to a recent report from Randy Duckworth, United States Dry Bean Council (USDBC) Regional Marketing Representative for South America. "At the time I visited the black bean harvest was just completed but the white bean and color bean harvests which take place farther north were only about 30% complete," Duckworth wrote in his report to USDBC. "Overall, the crop quantity was estimated to be about 20% less than last year. Quality was reported to be good and samples I saw supported this conclusion. In the Salta/Jujuy region and north the moisture level of beans at harvest seemed to be below average. One farm manager I spoke with confirmed that the bean moisture levels were lower than usual due to unseasonably warm temperatures they've been having."
