Lentils Maintain Firm UndertoneVANCOUVER - Jul 18/08 - SNS -- Lentil markets registered a mixed performance during the past week, though retaining their firm undertone in the face of limited grower selling and a general absence of speculative position taking. Exporters and processors do not want to sell additional quantities of green lentils without direct grower support because of the risk of frost before seeds ripen and/or too much heat during flowering and/or too much rain during harvest. By the same token they do not want to own more product at the grower level than they can comfortably sell because of chance there will be no problems during the balance of the growing season, creating the possibility of some weakness during and after harvest.
