Mixed Outlook For European and RegionVANCOUVER - Jul 18/08 - SNS -- The European Union's Joint Research Center (JRC) and Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen (IPSEC) review agricultural conditions in the region. The JRC — IPSEC agriculture unit's latest report was published earlier this month and forecasts a yield recovery in all crops in western Europe, while helping clarify the problems affecting pulse producers Turkey and north Africa. While it does not look at pulses as a separate category, some of the agency's comments are useful in assessing the potential for crops in Europe and surrounding regions. "Cumulated active temperatures were generally seasonal, but it was very hot in the last part of (June), especially in the central/southern EU, Italy and Spain. It was wetter than seasonal in southern areas and drier in northern areas. There was a severe drought in Denmark, northern Germany and Poland," the agency said.
