Farming Costs in the U.S. Up From Last YearWASHINGTON - Jun 27/08 - SNS -- The June Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) is 189% of the 1990-92 average, judging from the current USDA report on the sector. The index is up 3 points (1.6%) from May and 28 points (17%) above June 2007. Higher prices in June for feed grains, diesel fuel, feed concentrates, and mixed fertilizers offset lower prices for hay & forages and feeder pigs. The June Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) at 189 (1990-92=100), up 1.6% from May 2008 and up 17% from June 2007.
