U.S. Egg Output Drops 1 Percent
WASHINGTON - Jun 23/08 - SNS -- U.S, judging from today's USDA report on the sector.
egg totalled 7.57 billion throughout May 2008, down 1% from the previous year.
Production included 6.43 billion table eggs, and 1.15 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.08 billion were broiler-type and 68 million were egg-type.
The total number of layers during May 2008 averaged 340 million, down 1% from last year.
May egg production per 100 layers was 2,226 eggs, unchanged from May 2007. All layers in the U.S. on June 1, 2008 totalled 340 million, down somewhat from last year.
