Papaya Output Climbs in AprilWASHINGTON - Jun 10/08 - SNS -- Hawaii fresh papaya production is estimated at 2.62 million pounds for April 2008, up 4% from March and 7% higher than the comparable month a year ago, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates. Total area in crop for April is estimated at 2,015 acres, down slightly from March and 4% lower than April 2007. Harvested area totaled 1,420 acres, relatively unchanged from the previous month but 13% higher than April 2007. Warm, sunny weather was beneficial for crop development and maintenance in April.
