Easier Pace for Canadian Field Pea ClearancesVANCOUVER - Jun 2/08 - SNS -- Canadian field pea exports rose in May, lifting above both month and year earlier levels, according to data reported by members of the Canadian Ports Clearance Association, while limited movement of canary and mustard seed was reported from Thunder Bay during the month. Clearances at terminals reporting to the association totalled 1,425,153 metric tons (MT) between August and May. This compares to 1,275,018 MT last season and is well behind the previous record 1,570,491 MT shipped during the first nine months of the 2005-06 marketing campaign. It should ne noted that at one moment during the current shipping season, export clearances of field peas had established a new record pace. However, steeply rising prices on account of rapidly tightening available supplies in western Canada forced prices to levels which discourage demand, contributing to the current slow down.
