Farming Costs in the U.S. Up From Last MonthWASHINGTON - May 30/08 - SNS -- The May Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) is 184% of the 1990-92 average, according to this USDA report on the sector. The index is up 3 points (1.7%) from April and 23 points (14%) above May 2007. Higher prices in May for diesel fuel, mixed fertilizers, feeder cattle, and potash & phosphate more than offset lower prices for feed concentrates, feed supplements, tractors, and feed grains. The May Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) at 184 (1990-92=100), is up 1.7% from April 2008 and 14% from May 2007.
