Half Sask Crops Behind NormalREGINA -May 27/08 - SNS -- Seeding is advancing at a fairly rapid pace in Saskatchewan, but crop development is well behind normal for this time of year, according to the latest crop progress report from Saskatchewan Agriculture. Seeding of all crops is now 86% complete, better than the recent five-year average of 73% by the third week of May. Saskatchewan's southwest is furthest advanced at 91% of the crop planted, and the northwest is least advanced at 77%. Saskatchewan Agriculture said half of fall cereal crops are rated at normal development and 48% are rated behind in development; spring cereals are rated as 44% normal and 53% behind normal; oilseeds are rated as 40% normal and 58% behind; while pulse crops are rated as 48% normal and 51% behind. Crop reporters indicated that 49% of crop land has adequate topsoil moisture, which is similar to last week's figures.
