Australia -- Victoria Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 16/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. Warning Summary A gale warning is current for all Victorian coastal waters and for Port Phillip and Western Port. A severe weather warning for the Alpine area has been cancelled. Current Weather Situation and Future Developments A number of cold fronts will move across the State over the forecast period with the first front crossing the State today and another front on Sunday. On Monday a high pressure system will develop over South Australia, while a cold front will slip past over Bass Strait. On Tuesday, yet another cold front will move across southern Victoria. Victoria Saturday: Rain areas over central areas contracting to eastern districts during the day. Scattered showers and isolated hail and thunder following the rain band with snow developing down to 700 metres. A cold and cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds shifting fresh, gusty southwesterly from the west. UV Index: 1- 2 [Low] Sunday: Scattered showers, more isolated in the northwest. Snowfalls about the alps. Cool to cold. Moderate west to southwest winds, fresh about the coast. Monday: Isolated showers over southern and mountain districts. Cool to cold. --- STAT News Service
