Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 15/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary:
Strong Wind Warning for offshore coastal waters south of Port
Hacking. Sheep Graziers Warning for the Lower Western, Riverina,
South West Slopes, Southern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Central
West Slopes and Plains, North West Slopes and Plains, Northern
Tablelands, Illawarra, South Coast, Hunter and Mid North Coast
districts for later Saturday and Sunday. For the latest warning
information please check the Bureau's web site

Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
A band of showers moving over the east of the state will contract to
the sea during the day with only isolated showers remaining over the
northeast corner and parts of the ranges. The next cloud band will
enter the southwest of the state tonight bringing some rain with it.
It is linked to a very strong system, which is presently developing
in the Bight. A significantly cold air mass lies behind the change
and it will enter western NSW early Saturday and affect the east
overnight and into Sunday. A deep low pressure system is likely to
evolve in the western Tasman Sea into the early part of the new week.
Conditions are likely to be cold enough for some snow about higher
ground over the central and northern tablelands overnight Saturday
into Sunday morning .
Forecast for Friday
A band of showers over eastern parts mostly clearing to the sea by
the afternoon. Isolated showers redeveloping during the day on the
southern and central ranges and adjacent western slopes. Freshening
northwest to northeast winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Scattered showers or rain in the west, spreading to the east during
the day. Isolated thunderstorms over the southern and central inland
with some local hail. Snow showers developing about Alpine peaks,
with local snow about higher parts of the central and northern
tablelands overnight. North to northwest winds, turning cold
southwesterly in the south and west.
Forecast for Sunday
Cold south to southwest winds extending throughout. Scattered showers
about the ranges and western slopes. Isolated showers in the far west
and along the coast. Snow about the higher ranges, particularly in
the morning.
Forecast for Monday
The chance of showers about parts of the coast. Isolated showers
along the ranges and western slopes, clearing from the north. Fine
elsewhere. Cool to cold southwest winds.
