New Chickpea Fungicide for CanadaSASKATOON - May 14/08 - SNS -- BASF Canada is introducing a new formulation of HEADLINE EUO fungicide for western Canadian chickpea growers in Western Canada. The chemical helps fight ascochyta in chickpeas by combining pyraclostrobin and boscalid. For the 2008 growing season, growers will find HEADLINE EUO packaged in a new dry formulation, which contains an optimized ratio of each active ingredient in one indivisible jug. Since 2007, when resistant Ascochyta strains were first detected, BASF Canada has been working with provincial and federal officials, including the Pest Management Regulatory Agency and industry stakeholders, to ensure chickpea growers have access to a fungicide solution that will control all strains of Ascochyta. BASF recommends applying HEADLINE EUO as the first fungicide application at the 7- to 10-node stage of chickpea development to ensure the crop benefits from a disease-free start. If further applications are required due to new or persistent disease outbreaks, rotate HEADLINE EUO with a fungicide with another mode of action such as Bravo. Good stewardship practices dictate that fungicides should be rotated and that growers avoid sequential application of one specific product or chemistry.
