Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 11/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Sunday night and Monday Showers about the east coast and spreading over the eastern interior during the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the south-east border ranges. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh S/SE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over south-eastern Australia will continue to move slowly eastwards and reach the New Zealand area in the latter part of the week. This high will maintain a ridge along most of the east coast for most of the week. This ridge will direct a few showers and moderate to fresh SE winds onto the east coast during this period. An upper trough will move into the Great Australian Bight area on Tuesday and move across southern Qld and south-eastern Australia from Thursday onwards. As this system moves eastwards it will initially help spread showers westwards across the interior. This system will then form a cloud band with rain and storms on Wednesday night and this band will then move eastwards on Thursday before weakening and slipping out of the state on Friday. The ridge along the east coast will begin to decay from the south from Thursday onwards as a frontal system moves into the west of the state and reaches eastern coastal districts on Saturday.
