Daily Livestock Summary
CATTLE
Direct Trade:
In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; on Friday live sales
in south plains 2.00 higher; live sales in the north plains .50-1.00 higher;
dressed sales in Nebraska and Iowa steady to 1.00 higher.
Steers: Live basis; (all Grades: 48,028 head) 92.00-94.50, weighted average
93.92. Dressed basis; (all Grades: 11,287 head) 147.00-150.00, weighted average
148.63. Heifers: Live basis; (all Grades: 26,237 head) 92.30-94.50, weighted
average 93.98. Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 7,424 head) 147.00-150.00, weighted
average 148.59.
For the week: Live sales in the south plains 2.00 higher; dressed sales in
Nebraska and Iowa, Minnesota steady and Colorado 1.00-2.00 lower.
Auction Markets:
Walnut Livestock Auction, Walnut, IL - on Thursday
Compared to last week, slaughter steers and slaughter heifers sold 2.50-3.50
higher.
Slaughter Steers: Choice 2-3 1200-1450 lbs 91.75-96.50.
Slaughter Heifers: Choice 2-3 1020-1300 lbs 90.75-96.85.

Compared to last week, Choice steers 1.00 higher and Choice heifers .75-1.00
higher.
Slaughter Steers: Choice 2-4 1150-1400 lbs 89.00-92.50.

The average live weight of cattle slaughtered in the Texas Panhandle for the
week ending 05-03-2008 was 1221 lbs with 34 percent heifers compared to 1224 lbs
and 36 percent heifers the previous week and 1188 lbs and 35 percent heifers the
same week a year ago.

79.00. Western Cornbelt .81 higher at 68.00-81.76, weighted average price
79.07. Eastern Cornbelt 1.29 higher at 73.01-79.73, weighted average price
76.84.
Live Basis (240-280 lbs): National direct barrows and gilts .56 higher at
