Daily Carlot Meat Trade Summary

DES MOINES - May 9/08 - SNS -- The USDA's Argicultural Market Service (AMS) office here issued its latest daily review of the U.S. carlot market for various types of meat.


USDA CARLOT MEAT 4:00 SUMMARY
Compared to Previous Day, Prices in dollars per hundredweight, Equated to FOB Omaha
Basis.

NATIONAL BOXED BEEF CUTOUT LM_XB403
***This report is based on information provided by companies that agreed to
continue to participate in Livestock Mandatory Reporting on a voluntary
basis.***

   Boxed beef cutout values were steady to firm on light to moderate demand and
offerings. Select and Choice chuck and round cuts were generally steady. Select rib
and loin cuts were steady to weak while Choice was firm. Beef trimmings were higher
on moderate demand and light offerings.

   Estimated composite cutout value of Choice 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses up 0.86 at
156.04; Select 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses dn 0.27 at 151.83; based on 104.74 loads of
Choice cuts, 100.23 loads of Select cuts, 16.14 loads of Trimmings, and 51.03 loads
of coarse ground trimmings.

CARCASS PRICE EQUIVALENT INDEX VALUE
   Estimated carcass price equivalent value of Choice 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses
Up 0.93 at 142.69; Select 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses up 0.36 at 138.52.
   Current index reflects the equivalent of 248,240 head of cattle.

NATIONAL 5 DAY-ROLLING CUTTER COW CUTOUT LM_XB405
   The Cutter cow carcass gross cutout value was estimated at 127.45 dn 0.12.

BY-PRODUCT DROP VALUE NW_LS441
   Hide and offal from a typical slaughter steer was estimated at 10.61, down
-0.04 when compared to Wednesday's value.

NATIONAL CARLOT PORK  NW_LS500
   Sales reported on 27.5 loads of pork cuts and 4.0 loads of trim/process pork.

   Compared to Thursday's Close:  Fresh loins steady; butts 1/4" trim firm to 4.00
higher; sknd hams 23-27 lbs steady, other weights not tested; sdls bellies 14-16 lbs
and lean trimmings not tested. Trading very slow, with light to moderate demand and
mostly light offerings.

  *Calculations for a 200 lb Pork Carcass 53-54 percent lean 0.65" -0.80" back
fat at last rib.* **78.77 up 0.06**  Loins bone in fresh 1/4 inch trim 21# DN-
LGT 132.00-135.00; Hams bone in trimmed, 23-27 lbs trim spec 1 63.00; seedless
bellies 10-12 lbs 82.00.
