Record Low Taro HarvestWASHINGTON - May 9/08 - SNS -- Hawaii taro production for the 2007 crop year is estimated at 4.00 million pounds, down 11% from the previous year and a new record low since estimates began in 1946, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates. Area in crop, at 370 acres, was down 10 acres from 2006. Taro fields received heavy winter rains and flooding in 2006 and inadequate moisture in 2007.
