Japan Enforcing Container Weight LimitsWASHINGTON - May 5/08 - SNS -- Exporters need to be careful not to exceed weight limits being imposed by the Japanese government on containers, especially if there is any chance the containers will leave the dock area. Effective April 1, the Japanese government began enforcing new weight limits for 20 and 40 foot containers. The new maximum total cargo weight, including the container, must not exceed 30.48 MT (67,196 lbs) for a 40 foot container. The new total cargo weight limit for a 20 foot container is or 24 MT (52,910 lbs).
