Smaller Than Expected Mustard Seed CropVANCOUVER - May 2/08 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian field peas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg predicted this year's mustard plantings will total 499,000 acres, down 69,000 from last month. It also forecast production for 2008 will total 165,000 MT, down 20,000 from last month's prediction. Agriculture Canada is forecasting exports for 2008-09 at 115,000 MT, down 20,000 on the month. This season's exports are forecast at 140,000 MT, unchanged on the month. Domestic use is forecast at 50,000 MT, unchanged from the last report; while domestic use in 2008-09 is forecast at 50,000 MT, unchanged from last month. Season ending stocks are forecast at 15,000 MT, unchanged on the month. They are forecast at 15,000 MT by the close of the 2008-09 marketing year, unchanged from the last report. Agriculture Canada estimates grower bids to average between CDN $675 and $705 MT across all classes and grades of mustard seed in 2007-08, compared to last month's forecast range between $670 and $700 MT.
