Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 1/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Cairns. STATE FORECAST for Thursday night and Friday Isolated showers about most of the east coast, fine over the remainder. Strong SE winds about the coast north of Cairns. Moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. By Friday a new trough will sweep across southern QLD with no rain. However on reaching the SE isolated showers may develop in the eastern Darling Downs and SE coast in the evening. Little change elsewhere. Temperatures rising ahead of the change with NW winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK By Saturday the trough will pass through the Wide Bay and Capricornia districts with isolated showers. Drier air will follow the change over the SE with SW winds and cooler nights. Isolated showers will continue elsewhere about the east coast. By Sunday showers generally about the east coast, dry over the interior. Fine over the SE with lighter winds, some early frost in the Granite Belt. By Monday the next small high will be in NE N.S.W near the border with early frost --- STAT News Service
