Firmer Finish in Edible BeansVANCOUVER - Apr 25/08 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets finished the week's trading on a slightly firmer note, helped by confirmation Canadian growers intend to reduce planted area almost 16%. This compounds an expected drop in U.S. seedings, helping sustain the bullish tone of current and new crop markets. The U.S. spot market index for dry edible bean finished the week at 1325, unchanged from the previous week and compared to 965 at this time last year. The grower index finished unchanged at 1149, about 94 points below its record high, but up from 882 at this time last year. The grower share of the weighted average dealer price for beans now stands at 77.6%, unchanged from last week and down 4.2 points from this time last year.
