Moderate Export Pace for Canadian peasVANCOUVER - Apr 1/08 - SNS -- Canadian field pea exports improved in March, pulling port clearances further ahead last season with total shipments rising 16.9% above export clearances reported during the same eight month period, according to data reported by members of the Canadian Ports Clearance Association. Clearances at terminals reporting to the association totalled 1,208,759 metric tons (MT) between August and March. This compares to 1,033,754 MT last season and is just behind the previous record 1,249,985 MT shipped during the first eight months of the 2005-06 marketing campaign. Massive increases in export shipments of food quality peas to the Indian subcontinent remain the key reason Canadian field pea exports are able to maintain volumes even though feed pea shipments to Spain and other European buyers have plunged.
