Daily Carlot Meat Trade Summary

DES MOINES - Mar 26/08 - SNS -- The USDA's Argicultural Market Service (AMS) office here issued its latest daily review of the U.S. carlot market for various types of meat.

USDA CARLOT MEAT 4:00 SUMMARY
Compared to Previous Day, Prices in dollars per hundredweight, Equated to FOB
Omaha Basis.

NATIONAL BOXED BEEF CUTOUT
***This report is based on information provided by companies that agreed to
continue to participate in Livestock Mandatory Reporting on a voluntary
basis.***

   Boxed beef cutout values generally steady on light demand and light to
moderate offerings.  Select and Choice rib, chuck, round, and loin
generally steady.  Beef trimmings generally steady on light to moderate
demand and offerings.

   Estimated composite cutout value of Choice 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses up 0.13
at 140.77; Select 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses dn 0.20 at 139.43; based on 150.90
loads of Choice cuts, 87.94 loads of Select cuts, 39.63 loads of Trimmings, and
70.97 loads of coarse ground trimmings.

CARCASS PRICE EQUIVALENT INDEX VALUE
   Estimated carcass price equivalent value of Choice 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses
Up 0.07 at 132.34; Select 1-3 600-900 lbs carcasses dn 0.09 at 129.96.
   Current index reflects the equivalent of 240,990 head of cattle.

NATIONAL 5 DAY-ROLLING CUTTER COW CUTOUT
   The Cutter cow carcass gross cutout value was estimated at 115.55 dn 0.83.

BY-PRODUCT DROP VALUE
   Hide and offal from a typical slaughter steer was estimated at 10.65
Unchanged when compared to Tuesday's value

NATIONAL CARLOT PORK
   Sales reported on 122.75 loads of pork cuts and 8.0 loads of trim/process
pork.
Compared to Tuesday's Close:  Fresh loins steady to 1.00 lower; butts weak to
lower; sknd hams generally steady; sdls bellies not established; lean trimmings
1.00-2.00 lower. Trading slow to moderate, with light to moderate demand and
offerings.

  *Calculations for a 200 lb Pork Carcass 53-54 percent lean 0.65" -0.80" back
fat at last rib.* **56.54 dn 0.07**  Loins bone in fresh 1/4 inch trim 21# DN-
LGT 84.00-89.00; Hams bone in trimmed, 20-23 lbs trim spec 1 47.50-49.00;
