Chickpeas Firm in Light TradeVANCOUVER - Mar 21/08 - SNS -- International chickpea markets were slightly firmer in relatively light trade during the past week, which was clearly reflected in improved trading levels for Canadian and U.S. origin kabuli chickpeas. Fears that India would be a bearish force in markets once its rabi season harvest started have not materialized. In fact, Indian exporters have so far shown considerable patience in marketing this year's crop and in their resolve to obtain higher prices. This has created room for Mexican exporters to maintain or boost asking prices for chickpeas now being harvested in that country. And, that seems to be pushing buyers toward Canada and the United States, in hopes of picking up some lots of good quality product at a better price.
