Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 2/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. A gale and strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from Cape Flattery to Point Danger. 2. A flood warning is current for coastal streams between Cairns and Cardwell. STATE FORECAST for Sunday night and Monday Scattered showers, thunderstorms and rain areas over Cape York Peninsula. Rain areas with moderate to heavy falls about the north tropical coast. Isolated to scattered showers along the remaining east coast and parts of the northern tropical interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds across the interior. Fresh to strong S/SE winds along most of the east coast. Light to moderate NW winds across northern Cape York Peninsula. EXTENDED OUTLOOK High pressure will persist over most of the Tasman Sea during the week with new high cell reinforcing the high pressure about mid week. This high pressure area will maintain a firm ridge along most of the east coast for the week as the monsoon trough remains anchored over Papua New Guinea. The ridge will maintain fresh to strong SE winds and showers along most of the east coast. The winds along the far southern coast south of Fraser Island will increase again on Wednesday as the new high cell reinforces the area of high pressure over the Tasman Sea. Showers will continue along most of the east coast in the onshore fresh SE airflow while rain areas with moderate to heavy falls will continue about the north tropical coast. These rain areas will spread onto south-east Cape York Peninsula on Tuesday and contract from the southern north tropical coast during Wednesday. Rough seas and a moderate SE swell will continue along most east coast waters for the week. Over the interior the weather will remain fine into at least the end of the week.
