Turkey Hatchery Rises in DecemberWASHINGTON - Feb 14/08 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity increased in the United States during December, with the month finishing with more eggs in incubators and more poults hatched, according to the USDA. Turkey eggs in incubators on February 1, 2008, in the United States totaled 32.5 million, up 4% from February 1, 2007. Eggs in incubators were up 3% from the January 1, 2008 total of 31.6 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 2% at 4,812,000; West North Central up 1% at 12,005,000; North and South Atlantic up 15% at 11,761,000; and South Central and West down 8% at 3,924 eggs in incubators. Turkey poults hatched during January 2008, in the United States totaled 27.0 million, up 3% from January 2007. Poults hatched were up 8% from the December 2007 total of 24.9 million poults. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 5% at 3,932,000; West North Central up 2% at 10,272,000; North and South Atlantic up 11% at 9,591,000; and South Central and West down 6% at 3,233,000 poults hatched.
