Record Lentil DisappearanceVANCOUVER - Feb 9/08 - SNS -- Statistics Canada confirmed that available supplies of Canadian lentils are shrinking at a record rate. Stocks of all classes of lentils on hand as of December 31 totalled just 365,000 metric tons (MT), down from 700,000 last year. Implied disappearance is 452,900 MT or 55.4% of available supplies. At least 51,000 MT of lentils will be used as planting seed this season, which leaves just 314,000 tons of product to cover exports between January and July along with domestic markets and any other requirements.
