Faking It In PeasVANCOUVER - Feb 1/08 - SNS -- Canadian field pea producers in western Canada continue to see new record bid levels being established for their whole yellow and green peas. Growers in Alberta are also receiving modest premiums to their counterparts in Saskatchewan from local processors taking advantage of lower rail freight rates to Vancouver. Markets are moving quickly enough that a small number of growers and traders are consistently reporting higher prices from unnamed entities who cannot be located. While some companies are encouraging growers to suggest prices at which they would be willing to sell, they say they are encountering more claims of unverifiable bids from growers and other market longs.
