Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 1/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the: [a] Fitzroy River [b] Paroo River [c] Bulloo River [d] Lower Thomson and Barcoo Rivers and Cooper Creek. STATE FORECAST for Friday night and Saturday A few showers over the southeast. Showers and thunderstorms over most of the remainder of the state, although mostly fine over the central west and northwest. Light to moderate E to SE winds in the east tending NE in the central west. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A surface ridge over the east coast will maintain moist onshore E to SE winds. Scattered showers and some rain areas along the coast north of Mackay, will extend southwards during the weekend. The ridge will weaken over the tropical coast by Sunday resulting in showers becoming isolated north of Mackay. An upper trough will amplify over southwest Queensland today and move slowly eastwards over the next few days. This trough will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of southern and western Queensland with some rain areas extending along southern border areas. The trough will push eastwards with rain areas developing over most of southeast Queensland interior and coast early next week. Isolated moderate falls are expected over southeast interior as well. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will continue over interior parts of the remainder of the state, tending scattered over the Gulf Country and over Cape York Peninsula.
