North American Potato Output Up
WASHINGTON - Jan 22/08 - SNS -- Fall potato production in Canada and the United States is up 1% over last year at 519 million cwt (100 pound units), according to a joint release by the USDA and Statistics Canada.
The U.S. fall potato production is estimated at 409 million cwt, virtually unchanged from the U.S. December forecast but up 3 percent from last year. Canada's potato growers harvested 110 million cwt, virtually unchanged from Canada's November forecast but 2 percent below 2006.
