Acreage Fears Lift BirdseedsVANCOUVER - Jan 18/08 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets finished the week on a generally firmer note, as expanding corn and soybean area in the United States and durum in Canada remained an issue for new crop markets. This concern is clearly reflected in confectionary sunflower markets. New crop bids jumped to a five cent premium for larges and a two cent premium to spot for smalls as processors work to stem the potential flow of acreage to other crops. Spot and new crop oil type sunflower also remain strong, with new crop holding a modest premium to spot, reflecting acreage concerns and improving market prospects for soft vegetable oils.
