U.S. On-Farm Storage Capacity Up 4%WASHINGTON - Jan 11/08 - SNS -- The United States on-farm storage capacity totaled 12.1 billion bushels on December 1, 2007, up 4% from December 1, 2006, according to the USDA. Iowa continues to lead all States with 1.90 billion bushels of on-farm storage capacity followed by Illinois with 1.37 billion bushels and Minnesota with 1.33 billion bushels. Other major States include Nebraska with 1.10 billion bushels and North Dakota with 760 million bushels of on-farm storage capacity. These five States account for 53% of the Nation's on-farm storage capacity. On-farm grain storage capacity includes all bins, cribs, sheds, and other structures located on farms that are normally used to store whole grains, oilseeds, or pulse crops.
